Billing and plans

What a plan buys that credits do not, what a keyword slot is, what happens on upgrade, downgrade and cancellation, and how to get a refund.

Two things are for sale and they are deliberately separate.

  • A plan buys tracking capacity and automation: projects, seats, a pool of keyword slots, daily checks, local tracking, email rank reports and agent access — plus a monthly research allowance.
  • Credits buy discretionary research: keyword research, metric refresh, ad-hoc SERP and competitor lookups, site audits, and agent calls. Buy them outright as credit packs whenever you like, on any plan.

Rank tracking never costs credits. Scheduled checks run against your keyword slots, and being inside the pool is the whole cost. Credits are only ever spent on the discretionary work in the second list.

You can research and track on the free plan forever. You need a paid plan for weekly or daily schedules, because something has to pay for the worker that wakes up and runs them.

What a keyword slot is

A keyword slot is the unit of rank-tracking capacity. One slot covers one keyword, in one market, checked once a week on mobile, looking at the top 20 results.

  • Checking daily instead of weekly costs 7 slots — a daily tracker runs about 30 times a month against a weekly one's 4.
  • Adding desktop alongside mobile doubles it.

So 100 keywords checked weekly on mobile is 100 slots; the same 100 checked daily on both devices is 1,400. The pricing page shows one tracking number — your slot pool — and the tracker works out the arithmetic. There is no SERP-depth setting: every check reads the top 20, which is enough to see a top-10 position hold and to watch something climb off page three.

What each plan includes

The live table is on the pricing page and is generated from the same configuration the backend enforces, so it cannot drift. In outline:

The research allowance resets every billing period and does not roll over. Credit packs you buy roll over indefinitely, and spending draws the allowance first so the credits you paid cash for are the last to go.

Paying

Checkout and invoicing run through Polar, our merchant of record. They handle payment, sales tax and VAT, and they send the receipt. Card details never touch our servers.

Annual billing is available on every paid plan at roughly two months off.

Upgrading

Takes effect immediately. You get the difference between the two research allowances granted on the spot rather than waiting for the next renewal, and the larger slot pool is available straight away — so upgrading because you hit a limit mid-month does what you wanted it to do.

Downgrading and cancelling

Both take effect at the end of the period you have already paid for — you keep what you bought until it runs out.

At that point:

  • your plan drops to the tier below, or to Free on cancellation
  • the remaining research allowance expires
  • credits you purchased stay in your balance, untouched
  • if your tracked keywords now need more slots than the new plan's pool, the trackers over the line become read-only rather than being deleted — existing history stays, no new checks run
  • daily schedules drop to weekly if the new plan does not include daily checks, and the tracker says so
  • projects and history above the new plan's limits become read-only rather than being deleted

Nothing is deleted because you stopped paying. Ranking history ages out on the retention schedule of your current plan, and that is the only thing that goes.

Refunds

  • Credit packs — refundable within 14 days of purchase if unused
  • Subscriptions — cancel any time; we refund the current period on request if you have barely used it, and we will not argue about it
  • Failed work — never charged in the first place. A vendor error releases the reservation automatically

Invoices and VAT

Every payment produces a receipt from Polar by email, and past invoices are in the customer portal, reachable from the billing page. Add a company name and a VAT number there and they appear on subsequent invoices.

Teams

Seats are members of your organisation, and they share one credit balance, one slot pool and all its projects. Invite from Settings → Members; invitations expire after seven days. Owners and admins can spend credits, members can too — there is no per-project permission model, and organisation membership is the whole access story.
