Getting started

From signing up to a tracked keyword in about five minutes, and what each step costs.

You need a Google account or an email address. There is no card, no trial timer, and no onboarding call. Signing up puts 100 credits in your balance — enough for a few days of keyword research — and those credits never expire. You also get 25 keyword slots to track with, free forever.

1. Sign in

Go to the app and choose Google or a magic link. The first time you sign in we create an organisation for you, make you its owner, and open the balance the credits land in. An organisation is the billing unit: projects, credits and teammates all belong to it, not to you personally, so handing a client account to a colleague later is a membership change rather than a password.

2. Create a project

A project is one site. Give it a name, the domain it lives on, and the market you care about — country and language. Everything downstream inherits that market, because the same phrase in the United States and in Germany is genuinely two different keywords with two different volumes, and pretending otherwise is how people end up optimising for the wrong country.

Open Keywords and type a phrase your customer would actually say. Not "b2b saas project mgmt" — "project management software for small teams".

Before you press the button, look at it. It says what the search will cost: 21 credits for 250 rows at the default settings. Change the row count and the number changes. That is the whole product philosophy in one control, and it holds everywhere a credit is spent — bulk refresh, audits, agent calls.

The results come back with monthly search volume, cost per click, a 0–100 difficulty score and the intent behind the phrase. Sort by whatever matters to you. The parameters you searched with are in the URL, so you can send the link to a colleague and they will see the same result set without spending anything.

4. Save the ones worth keeping

Most of a research run is noise. Select the handful that describe pages you would actually build, save them to the project, and tag them — by client, by page, by quarter, whatever you will search by in three months.

Saving costs nothing. It is your data at that point.

5. Track them

Open Rankings, create a tracker, point it at your domain, and add the keywords you saved. Choose mobile or desktop and how often it should run.

Scheduled tracking does not cost credits — it runs on the keyword slots your plan includes. Twenty keywords checked weekly on one device is twenty slots, and Free gives you 25. Checking daily costs 7 slots per keyword, adding desktop doubles it, and the tracker page shows how many slots you have left.

On the free plan you run checks by hand. Weekly schedules start at Starter and daily at Pro — see billing and plans.
